Minutes, 11-29-04 Here's what went down at the brief meeting yesterday: 1) Fundraising Fundraising for the Niigata earthquake victims went rather well, taking into consideration that at one point, if we couldn't keep the food heated, we were going to totally abandon the whole idea. So far, we have made $164 dollars profit. We may call Kamehachi and try to sell again, but Mickey realized we only reserved a spot at Reynold's Club for Tuesday and Thursday of this week. We will not sell on Thursday, and we did not have time to sell today. So depending on whether we can get a spot tomorrow in the Reynold's Club, we may or may not sell food tomorrow. Oh, and Aza might have some gyoza left in his freezer, as well. They must get back to us about that. 2) Iron Chef Iron Chef plans are slowly coming around. A cook-off date has been set for two or three teams who are interested in competing against the current Iron Chef: Saturday Januray 8, 2005. The ingredient was decided; again, I don't know if I'm supposed to tell or not...But I'll let you know that it was an executive decision, made by Iron Chef Father Shawn. The competing teams for this cook-off will prepare 2 dishes to have a better demonstration. We discussed the need for prizes and gifts - for the winning team, a gift for Fire Escape. We did not come up with a concrete plan, but Shawn mentioned there were prizes left over from last year (??). Gift certifactes was an idea. As you might know, we are in dire need of judges. We are currently looking to professors and graduate students of various fields and disciplines. We also discussed contacting members of the Japanese consulate or JASC and other organizations. Last-resort options included members (president?) of Culinary Club, or even MY MOM. Any suggestions are welcome, see Mickey's letter for judges that was sent out earlier today. We also need emcees and kaga. Mitcho said he could do emcee with someone from his house, his RA, he will see about that and get back to us. The budget will have to be figured out post-Winter Break, and conveniently, our treasurer will have returned by then. 3) Next meeting, etc. The next meeting will be held on Monday, January 3 of 2005. Time unknown, Mickey will notify; place, most likely Hutch. We will start finalizing things about Iron Chef, and possibly discuss doing things more "clubby." I'm not exactly sure what that'll be about, so come and see on January 3rd~ 4) Look, it's a "Mickey"! J-POP newsbit of the day: http://www.randc.jp/gorie/discography.html This guy is a comedian, but has a segment of a show where he dresses up as "Gorie-chan," this ditzy, big- boobed Shibuya-style girl with a mean boyfriend. She/he released a single titled "Mickey" earlier in the fall, and it became a big hit in Japan. I can't get over the fact that what starts off as a joke on some TV show becomes a big hit and subsequently, a huuuge profit in Japan. I love Japan. Good luck on finals and such, have a good break~ Your secretary.
