Minutes, 4-9-04 I apologize that the general listhost was not made aware of this meeting. I did send a notification email out the Wednesday before, but it seems not to have been forwarded in time for some reason. Please look over the minutes for an overview of what we talked about. 1) Joint Movie Showing with PASA A joint showing of Mamoru Oshi’s “Avalon” with the Polish American Student Association will take place on the Thursday of 6th week. PASA will provide the film. We will provide some food, likely from Matsuya. Shawn will ask what PASA thinks about the location, time and food. 2) Art Lecture Series We will sponsor the "Race, Politics and Culture in the Visual Arts" lecture series. Satomi is in correspondence with Rosalind Fielder, Associate Director of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture at the University, and will ask about how we will transfer the $100 to Professor Bibiana Suarez, the organizer. Once we make the transfer, I will send an advertisement to the listhost. 3) Group Attendance of “The Man Who Turned Into a Stick” Cassie will keep us abreast of the details on this University Theater interpretation of the Japanese folktale, and we will subsidize attendance for a group of those interested! 4) The New Board We have received a response from one member interested in joining the board. Anyone else who is interested should reply. (If you did not get the email with position descriptions and would like them, do mention this.) 5) PanAsia It is my opinion that this year’s PanAsia movies will be great, regardless of whether Japanese film studies Professor Michael Raine will come speak about them or not. But, Shawn will contact him to see if he is willing. As for food, we’ll be getting a bit of candy from Mitsuwa, but popcorn is still debatable. Popcorn lovers are encouraged to reply if they want to see some at the screenings. I will: bring the movies over to Shawn’s place and see if they work on his PS2, contact Regine about the key to the AV cabinet, and send out an email about the screenings. Also, we’ll need to get some flyers put together. 6) Budget In short, we are in a better financial state then we had expected. We have $1800 currently and will have $2500 when we receive our Iron Chef Chicago 2004 sponsorship funds from Citibank. We do not owe Ida Noyes any further payment for using the Cloister Club. The ‘catch’ is that the Student Government Finance Committee expects us to spend $1100 of this by the end of the year. One predicted breakdown of expenses this quarter, which would fulfill this expectation and then some, is as follows: PanAsia, $100; art lecture series, $100; movie showing with PASA, $100; group admission to UT’s “The Man Who Turned Into a Stick,” $100; Summer Breeze, $800; study break, $550.
