General Meeting Minutes, 5-14-03 "I need to speak to Kenneth Gray." "Who?" "Nooooooooooooo!" Just a little inside joke... this is why you need to come to the meetings. ;) Mike ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1) Preparing Yakitori Jay Monteverde's "Everything but Bugers" barbecue will take place this Friday from 5pm to 9pm in the Bartlett Quad. Japanese Club is participating in this event by grilling yakitori. But before we can grill on Friday, we need to put the chunks of food on the skewer and make the sauce on Thursday. Specifically, preparations for the barbecue will take place on Friday at 8pm on room 610 of Shoreland (Shawn's place). The board, however, does not want to do this alone. What will I do to solicit your participation? I am simply going to beg. If you were in front of me right now, you would see me down on my knees with my hands pressed together. Please, members, please, please come to Shoreland to help prepare food for Friday. It's not hard at all. Please help us. Please. 2) Jay Monteverde's "Everything but Bugers" Come to this barbecue, but don't expect burgers. Expect, rather, to grill some yakitori. The event begins at 5pm in the Bartlett Quad, but come at 4pm to help set up, and bring Japan-related CDs if you have them--the people in charge are looking for some variety in the music they will play. Some members will show up as early as 3:30pm to get the fire started: as we learned on Monday, it takes awhile for the grill to heat up. The food portion of "Everything but Burgers" will end at 6pm, so it's up to you if you want to stay longer. 3) Summer Breeze: Sumo Wrestling Yes, we shall be wrestling in merely 3 days. The place will be the Main Quad, but the times are a bit sketchier. Perhaps it will start at 11am. We will find out the exact times later. In any case, before the event begins a large truck will arrive with the sumo equipment and we will begin to set up at that time. Your help will be greatly appreciated, and you may get to 'test drive' the sumo suits before they are released to the public. One more task we shall complete on Saturday morning is to create a banner for our sumo tournament; maybe it will say 'Sumo Breeze.' 4) Meeting with GSB Students Members of the Japanese Club will meet with Japanese students of the Graduate School of Business on Wednesday, May 21 at 5pm in the basement of Swift to discuss networking. We shall talk about the upcoming study break and about cooperative events next year. We would really like to forge a strong relationship with Japanese students of the GSB; for one thing, they greatly outnumber us (think in the ballpark of 150), and of course they can broaden our cultural horizons. Therefore, to support J-Club in this endeavor, please come to Swift on Wednesday. 5) End-of-the-Year Study Break Our final activity of the year will be a study break open to the whole university community and will most likely take place on Sunday, June 1 at the Osaka garden (weather permitting). It might take the form of a cookout or a potluck--out meeting with the GSB students will help us decide, as they are invited to this study break as well. We are even going to invite some of our senseitachi*. Everyone explicitly invited will most likely be asked to R.S.V.P. Expect more information as we inch closer to summer. *teachers 6) Sorry I forgot to bring the extra yakitori sauce to the meeting. But rest assured, it will find its way into the hands of its rightful owner. ;) (End of Minutes.)
